Pep Guardiola apologises for Manchester City Allez, Allez, Allez song about Liverpool fans, says it wasn’t ‘intention’ to offend anyone
Pep Guardiola has apologised if any offence was caused by a video which appeared to show Manchester City’s players singing a song about Liverpool fans being ‘battered in the streets’.The video, shared widely on social media earlier this week, was apparently taken on a plane after City won the Premier League title with last Sunday’s defeat of Brighton.A version of the ‘Allez, Allez, Allez’ chant can be heard in the footage, with lyrics altered from the original to reference Liverpool losing last season’s Champions League final in Kyiv. There also lines that discuss Vincent Kompany, the Manchester City captain, injuring Reds forward Mohamed Salah, and one which seems to take joy in Liverpool fans being ‘battered in the streets’.While Manchester City denied claims this referred to the violent assault of Sean Cox by a Roma fan last year, his brother, Martin, told talkSPORT it is ‘inappropriate’ for players to sing about any individuals being beaten up.He said on Wednesday: “Any song like that, these players are media trained in this day and age and are role models for children. I dont understand why the first thing they want to do, right after they win the league title, is sing about Liverpool, first of all, and then actually sing about fans getting battered in the streets.Sean Cox was left in critical condition after being assaulted by three Italian men last AprilFacebook - Sean Cox1

Surely they know that the song is inappropriate.City say the ‘battered in the streets’ line is instead a reference to the Liverpool supporters who were assaulted by masked hooligans ahead of last season’s Champions League final defeat by Real Madrid.

Man City's 'Allez, Allez, Allez' song

All the way to Kiev,To end up in defeat.Crying in the stands,And battered on the streets.Kompany injured Salah,Victims of it all.Sterling won the double,The Scousers won f**k all.Allez, allez, allez!Guardiola was asked about the chant in his press conference ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup final, which pits his City side against a Watford team hoping to win their first ever major silverware.“It was not what people say,” Guardiola said. “If you could imagine just for one second that we could offend about what this tragedy is about, all the Liverpool people.“If someone was offended for another issue I apologise, but it wasn’t our intention. We were happy for ourselves.“We celebrated for ourselves and how happy we were to win this Premier League against an incredible contender.”

Last week, I investigated the changing performance of starters relative to relievers. There's nothing too crazy about that — FanGraphs is a baseball analysis website, after all, and the starter/reliever divide is a rich topic for analysis.
Preview: Manchester United vs. Watford - Fussboll

Manchester United, the darlings of the Premier League since Solskjaer's arrival, suddenly have a lot to prove after back-to-back losses. Chalk up the Arsenal result as somewhat unlucky, but the Wolves defeat was poor from start to finish. Not even Paul Pogba's much-ballyhooed return to the captaincy saved the Reds from a dismal performance.
