Luis Suarez has been branded a ‘rat’ over the way he acted during Barcelona’s 3-0 Champions League semi-final defeat of Liverpool by former Reds striker John Aldridge.The Anfield goalscoring great admits he doesn’t mind Suarez celebrating against his former club – as he did when he opened the scoring at Camp Nou – but his ‘sneaky’ and ‘nasty’ antics rubbed Aldridge the wrong way.Lionel Messi added a second-half brace after Suarez’s opener to secure Barca a convincing lead heading into this evening’s second leg, leaving Liverpool with a mountain to climb.2

Suarez has promised he will NOT celebrate should he score in front of the Anfield faithful during tonight’s clash, but he is unlikely to keep many fans should he act as he did in the first leg.This is according to Aldridge, who says Suarez failed to respect the loyalty he was shown by Liverpool fans during his turbulent time on Merseyside.Supporters backed the Uruguay forward during accusations he racially abused Patrice Evra, the then Manchester United defender, while he also bit Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic while playing for the Reds.“Suarez behaved like a rat in the Champions League semi-final against Liverpool and it was out of order,” Aldridge told the Irish Independent. “I dont have any problem with him celebrating his goal against Liverpool. Just because he used to wear a red shirt, it doesnt mean he has to pretend he is not excited to score a great goal in a massive Champions League game.“What was not acceptable was his antics on and off the ball, as he got into the faces of Liverpool players, fell over any time anyone went near him and tried to get his opponents booked at every opportunity.“He was sneaky, he was nasty and he was everything people used to tell us Suarez was when everyone at Liverpool was trying to defend him.“We know this is a guy who would run over his granny to score a goal, but everyone should have some respect for those who have been good to you in the past, but Suarez threw the support Liverpool gave him back in our faces.

He was a bit of a diver at times and biting opponents is bang out of order, but his brilliance on the field ensured he was worth the hassle that came with him.2

Aldridge has accused Suarez of disrespecting the club that backed him through numerous controversial incidents

“So after all that happened with Suarez at Liverpool, the club was due some respect from him as he lined-up for Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals and what we got was precisely the opposite.”Not only do Liverpool have to overcome a three-goal deficit to reach the Champions League final, but they must do so with a number of injury problems.Most notably, both Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah have been ruled out Tuesday’s fixture by Jurgen Klopp, with Rhian Brewster, the England youth forward, in line to make his debut in their absence.
