Alan Shearer says footballers’ lives will be at risk if the Football Association fails to come down hard on pitch invaders.Aston Villa ace Jack Grealish was punched by a Birmingham fan during the Second City derby on Sunday,before Manchester Uniteds Chris Smalling was shoved by an Arsenal supporter later that day.2

Rangers captain James Tavernier was also attacked by a Hibernian fan on Friday.Grealish, Smalling and Tavernier were unharmed as all three supporters were arrested and banned for life by their respective clubs.But former Newcastle and England star Shearer believes punishments such as points deductions and playing behind closed doors would deter fans from pitch invading.It is absolutely disgusting and if we dont stamp it out now, next time it could be a knife,” he wrote in The Sun.

Where are we at in football when some thug thinks that is what he is going to do?The football authorities have to be seen to nail Birmingham for the behaviour of their fan.If that means docking them points, playing in an empty stadium, so be it. There has to be the right message here. Come down like a ton of bricks on Birmingham and punish so-called fans where it hurts, with bans and fines.It just proves we have a real problem. The authorities have to stamp it out now.United defender Ashley Young also urged the FA to take action against the pitch invaders. He added: “What message can you put out there? It is the third time a fan has managed to get on the pitch.What if they are carrying something? Players will be at danger.It is definitely something the FA, Premier League and FIFA need to look at. Maybe extra stewarding, something has to be done.
