Leicester City have lined up Brendan Rodgers as their new manager should Claude Puel be sacked, according to reports.Puel, the Frenchman, is under serious pressure at the King Power Stadium with fans calling for his head.Leicester currently sit eighth in the Premier League, but their festive defeats of Chelsea and Manchester City papered over cracks which started to show in the opening days of the new year.2

Rodgers has emerged as a target for Leicester

The Foxes first lost to League Two Newport County to be knocked out the FA Cup, before suffering a defeat at Southampton’s hands over the weekend.Leicester chiefs are now considering giving in to fan pressure and dismissing Puel, with the former Monaco player set to be axed should the Foxes lose to Midlands rivals Wolves on Saturday.And, according to The Sun, Leicester have identified Celtic boss Rodgers as their ‘prime target’ to replace Puel. Rodgers is currently midway through his third season at Parkhead and is hoping to win his third successive domestic treble.The Northern Irishman joined Celtic a year after being sacked by Liverpool, with Rodgers also having Premier League experience with Swansea.2

He guided Swans into the top flight, and his impressive style of play in the first division earned him a move to Anfield.Rodgers almost became the first manager to guide Liverpool to a Premier League title, but results at the end of the 2013/14 season – including the famous ‘Steven Gerrard slip’ match – meant Manchester City pipped them to the crown.The 45-year-old has previously been linked with a return to English football, with Arsenal reported to have considered Rodgers as a replacement for Arsene Wenger before they hired Unai Emery prior to the start of this season.
