Jesus fired past Jordan Pickford to put City in control after Everton’s early dominance, and the hosts really should have extended their lead before half-time.But they had to wait until after the break for Jesus to add his second, and the match turned into a training exercise with City in control. But, out of nothing, Calvert-Lewin got Everton back in the game and they started to press for an equaliser. However, City restored their two-goal lead almost instantly, with Sterling heading Fernandinho’s cross home from close range immediately after entering the match as a substitute. The visitors had late chance to pull another goal back, but Richarlison fired over from distance and Walcott missed from inside the area, meaning all three points remained in Manchester.

Star man

It could only be Gabriel Jesus. The Brazil international came into today’s match with just one Premier League goal to his name this season, but he added to his tally with two excellent strikes. The first showed just how clinical he can be in the opposition’s area, while the second was a thumping header.Jesus’ first finish was exceptional3

Moment of the match

Raheem Sterling scored moments after Everton had pulled a goal back. The Toffees were showing life once again with the feeling they could pull level, but Sterling killed the optimism almost instantly with a beautifully cushioned header from Fernandinho’s cross. It was the perfect time for City to score their third goal, and further proved Sterling’s worth to Pep Guardiola.
