West Ham have begun investigating the matter, and the police have been called in to also look into the incident which is reported to have occurred last Friday.“The club is aware of an allegation of theft at our Academy headquarters in Chadwell Heath,” a club statement read. “We are treating the matter extremely seriously in line with internal protocol and co-operating fully with a Police investigation.”The changing rooms are reported to have been empty when the theft took place, while there is no sign of forced entry. The watch was given to Oxford by his mother as an 18th birthday present, and it is claimed by the Mirror that the teenager’s camp believe this is part of a plot to force him out of the club.Last month Manuel Pellegrini, the West Ham manager, warned Oxford his days at the London Stadium may be numbered.“We will see what happens with Reece,” he said. “Whether he stays here, or if it is better for him to go and play for another team.”Oxford himself is ready to stay with the east London club and fight for his place, though there is reported interest in the 19-year-old from Premier League champions Manchester City, as well as Borussia Dortmund of the Bundesliga.
